Reform Gains Momentum in Newton!

The winter chill may have paid us a reminder visit on Sunday, but that didn't stop supporters coming out to cheer on Greer Tan Swiston as she officially announced her candidacy for State Representative in the 11th District of Middlesex, challenging Kay Khan for the seat.

Swiston, long-time resident of Newton, is stepping forward to serve her community. She sees the need for fiscal responsibility, administrative accountability and new vision on Beacon Hill and is ready to be part of the solution.

"Remember, the American Government exists to represent the citizens, not to rule them" Swiston said, as she addressed a roomful of neighbors and friends. "It's my vision that our Government be a shining example of responsibility, accountability and accessibility. As your State Rep, I will endeavor to lead the way."

Swiston cited a need for individual accountability and responsibility in the legislature for state spending; a need to stop playing political games; a need for increased efficiency in the government process citing administrative duplication as an area for improvement. She especially emphasized the need to put Massachusetts education back on top, citing MCAS tests more as an early detection system whose value is in discovering problems before it's too late. "We know it's harder to fix a problem the later we detect it. It costs more to fix problems the later we detect them."

Apparently, Swiston's fresh approach to politics is striking a cord with voters. "When I first heard about Greer's candidacy, my first thought was, of course, she would be great at the job and great for Newton." Eileen Sandberg said. "She'll be the first Republican I've ever voted for!"

Swiston is already making good on her promise to meet the community. You may have already seen her walking in your neighborhood or having a coffee at your favorite coffeehouse. "My door is open to [the Newton community]. After all, the job is about representing the people of Newton." You can take her up on her offer by visiting her website at www.vote4greer.com or calling the campaign office at (617) 308-7906. She's ready to be the new voice for Newton.
